Mayberry Days and lots and lots of apples

We decided to go on another adventure and take another family with us- Tom, Amy, Eliana and Timmy. We went to Mayberry Days for the morning and then we did our annual trip to get apples, tomatoes, pumpkins, and sweet potatoes.  I don't think Tom and Amy really knew what they were getting into when they went with us.  I don't think they believed us when we told them we were going to fill up the back of Brian's truck.  We weren't sure how the weather was going to be but we decided to go anyways.
We walked along the streets in Mt. Airy and saw some old patrol cars and look a likes from the Andy Griffith show.  We ate some good BBQ downtown.

Then after lunch we decided to drive to our usual places to get our produce.  We drove to several places to get our good deals.  We ended up with a box of tomatoes so we could make fresh tomato sauce, a box of sweet potatoes which should last us a while, 7 bushels of apples to make applesauce- thats like over 300 pounds of apples ($6 a bushel for the 2nds), some eating apples, 2 cooking pumpkins, and a couple of carving pumpkins.  We had a great time and all this food should last us a while.

The boys loved eating the apples

Loaded down and ready to go home

I ended up working on the apples for most of the next week to make applesauce.  We finally bought our own kitchen aid attachment to help process the applesauce.  We ended up with 82 quart jars of applesauce.  Last year we did around 50.  We just finished up our last jar.  We figured we needed to make more jars since we have another mouth to feed.  We also made some apple butter.  Thankfully my inlaws helped us get started and then took Jaxon for a couple of days so I could finish and get some other things done.
