Escaping the Greensboro heat

We decided not to go to the beach this summer but to head to the mountains and escape the heat.  We picked the perfect time to go to Boone.  It was right before Brian had to report to his new teaching job.  The weather was perfect- high 60s low 70s. We had some rain but not enough to ruin our plans.  Being pregnant and heat are not a good combination.  So getting away to cooler temps was perfect.
We rented a cabin in Boone with my inlaws, ate out some and cooked at the cabin for the rest of the meals.  Despite not getting their naps everyday and being a little off schedule the kids did great and loved staying at the cabin, they especially loved the covered porch.

Jaxon loved the bunk beds in his room.

We rented a pontoon boat about an hour away in Tennessee. The kids loved the water.

We went to Tweetsie for the first time.  Jaxon was the perfect age for the rides.  Kaelyn enjoyed a few rides too, especially ones she got to ride with her big brother.  We saw a few shows and rode the train 2 times which the kids loved.  They also enjoyed feeding the animals at the petting zoo.

my attempt to get a picture of the kids at the end of the day

We shopped around Boone/Blowing Rock area and stopped at the Mast General Store.  Jaxon camped out and played with all the trucks and cars.  We saw some pretty mountain views as we drove around. The kids loved running around at a local park. They also loved our visit to a big toy store.

We were sad to see our vacation come to an end and even more sad that we had to return home to all the heat.
